What do I do if the other person claims the accident was my fault?

Video Transcript

I would not admit fault at the scene, just collect as much information as you can. Make sure you tell your side of the story to the police officer, or whoever responds to the scene. Initially, the responding officer may put his understanding of how the accident occurred. It is not the gospel, but again on the police report he may put primary contributing unit, meaning who he believes caused the accident, but you have to remember: Probably 99% of the time, these officers are not there to eyewitness the wreck, and so it is, again, just based on both sides of the story and based on the physical evidence at the scene. Get any and all names of witnesses, and then, again, do not admit fault, but then contact a lawyer and tell them your side of the story and see if you may have a claim.
